Highlight the words from the OneNote To-Do List item to be your task. On the Home tab, move the mouse over the Tags gallery, and then click the down-facing arrow that appears at the bottom of the gallery box. Use the tab key to indent notes for additional organization. In your notes, click or select the text that you want to tag with a custom tag. Click on one of the results to go to its specific location. If you don't see a tag that better suits how you'd like to categorize a note, you can create your own tag. Users can search for custom tags in the app search experience and tag results will appear under the Tags tab. Now that you’ve started tagging throughout OneNote with custom tags, it’s easier than ever stay organized and find what you need through search. Not only will custom tags help you stay organized your way, but they will also help your teams and organizations keep shared notebooks organized with customized tags. The service will soon allow users on Windows 10 and Mac to create custom tags that sync across all their devices and allow.

To create a new custom tag, click the Tags dropdown in the Home tab and select “Create New Tag.” When the Create a Tag pane opens, name the new tag, select an icon to represent it and click Create to add your new tag to the list of tags. OneNote provides several tags (or visual markers) that you can apply to. Once you see it in your app, feel free to start using it. No settings need to be enabled to use this feature.
